Born and raised in Northern New Jersey into a family of musicians, Garrett was playing and studying drum set and hand percussion by the age of 6.  Garrett began studying under drumming luminaries such as renowned jazz percussionist Armen Halburian and legendary master Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji before he entered his teens.   He became heavily influenced by cultural music from all corners of the earth and witnessed early on that music is the one true universal language.

Extremely dedicated to the study and practice of drums Garrett has extensively performed, toured and recorded in various diverse styles such as Rock, Jazz, Swing, Blues, Funk, Psychedelic, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, Classical, Soca, Calypso, Fusion, Punta, Paranda, Afro–Cuban, Salsa, Latin Jazz, Flamenco, Soukous, West African, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Americana, Blue Grass, Country, Folk, Jam Band, New Age, and Creole styles.

Garrett has also performed or toured with big name acts such as Dickey Betts and Great Southern (The Allman Bros founding member), Haywood Gregory (Aretha Franklin/ Eddy Harris), James Peterson (Blues legend/ Lucky Peterson’s father), Nuru aka Day-Aan Ellis (Belizean Pop Star), Gadu Nunez (Godfather of Guatemalan Punta Rock), Marcony Star (Guatemalan Punta star), Fermin Arzu, Pat Travers, Amandala Tunesmith, Jimmy Fadden of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Thorson Moore (guitar virtuoso), Syesha Mercado (American Idol), Twinkle (WarnerBros/EMI Recording Artist)...& more
